Torres Trail 5k

Gahanna, OH

This year's beneficiary is Carie Shepherd, mother of two boys, 16yo Tristan & 5yo Fallon. Additional to being an amazing mother, Carie is a devoted wife to Todd Shepherd, a Westerville firefighter since 2005. Carie was diagnosed in April 2016 with an aggressive form of endometrial adenocarcinoma and has since underwent two surgeries. Her latest surgery was a radical hysterectomy to remove a large tumor in her uterus. Carie has chosen an alternative treatment plan not yet covered by insurance.

The Torres Trail 5k Run/ Walk was founded in 2012 after Lieutenant Anthony Torres of the Mifflin Township Fire Department was involved in a serious motorcycle accident which resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. Fellow co-worker Firefighter Kenny King started the benefit to help Anthony and his family during a very difficult time in their lives. Lt. Torres made a full recovery and returned to work as a firefighter full duty with no restrictions. Anthony is the 1st amputee full duty firefighter in the State of Ohio. Mifflin Township Firefighters Local 2818 are continuing the benefit to help other local firefighter families in their time of need.

The 5th Annual Torres Trail 5K Benefit Walk/ Run will be on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Creekside Park in Gahanna to benefit Westerville Firefighter Todd Shepherd's wife Carie and help in her battle with cancer.
